Week 4

Up 1 pound (lost 19 lbs so far)

Ran 15 miles

Total mileage for January/2012: 72.6

Week 4 and I gained a pound. I’m not too worried as I’m at a plateau at the moment anyway. So I took this weekend off from exercise and just enjoyed it. I did start running outside this week, which was great. We had a really warm day last week and then it snowed so I ran in both conditions and felt really good. I’m going to start my half marathon training plan in a few weeks, so get ready to read about that!

Week 3

Down 1.5 pounds (20 so far)

Ran 22 miles

Total mileage for January/2012: 57.6

Week 3 of 2012, still going strong. Total loss is 20 pounds since July! Hoorah! That was an exciting day. I splurged a bit this weekend as the boyfriend returned but hopefully I can make up for it this week.

As for my race a month I found this from a friend Distance Medley which is the BAA 5k, 10k, and half marathon for one solid price. The one issue is that I may go to CA this summer so I’m not sure about the 10k… registration starts next week. Sure is tempting…

Until next week…

Week 2

Down 1 pound (19.5 so far)

Ran 19.6 miles

Week 2 went pretty well towards the beginning of the week. Thursday and Friday (and today) I splurged a bit. I still lost 1 pound but could of done better. I’ve decided that I will be running my second half marathon in May, so I’ll start training for that (or increasing my milage so far).

I’ve got a busy week this week but I hope I can get in enough running and gym time to lose some more weight! woot!

new year, new goals

So it’s 2012, yay! Since I started this blog in 2009, its had various purposes.

  • as a blog to talk about nonsense
  • to post things I wanted to remember
  • to document my last year in college
  • to explore a new state, new part of the country
  • to train for a half marathon
  • and now to run 12 races in 12 months

I’m now tempted to make it more of a self journey in losing weight and becoming fit, but I’ll keep it what it is now and just post about that stuff. I’m not quite sure who even reads this but it’s good to go back and read it myself, so if it’s purpose is for me down the line, that’s enough motivation to keep me posting.

Anyway, we’re one week into 2012, and about 3 months into my weight loss/running journey. Every week I’m going to try to post my weight loss or gain and how many miles I’ve tracked just by running. I don’t have a number of miles to achieve by the end of the year but I would like to do another half marathon before the year is through!

So this week, week 1

Down 2 lbs (18.5 so far)

Ran 16 miles

5 months down, 7 to go!

I did a 4 mile run today in Salem, MA. It was a great way to start the new year however, I was a bit hungover from last night that it was not my best. I did run all 4 miles and clocked in at around 10:20 min/mile. Really, that’s pretty good, even for being hungover.

Salem is such a cute town, and we got to run by the water, which was amazing. It was a nice 50 degrees and sunny, perfect weather.

As for February’s race, I haven’t decided as to what to do. There is a half marathon, and a couple of 10-milers but I’m not quite ready for those yet.

Hopefully I can keep this up past August, when I’ll have completed 12 races in 12 months, and hopefully i’ll complete a marathon by 2013!

So unhealthy…

I’m really sad that my winter vacation has only been 2 days long, but I am happy to get back to Boston and eat healthy… I ate like such crap this weekend, but here’s to a fresh start!

Hoorah new Personal Best!!!
I ran December’s (Month 4 of 12) run today. It was a Jingle Bell 5k in Somerville, MA. I saw yesterday that it was going to be cold but holy crap it was way colder then I thought. This was my first run out in the cold and I think I was pretty prepared. I had bought new running pants and they were super warm. One issue is that there’s a zipper on the bottom by the ankle so I have a nice blister there. But I was wearing two tops and gloves and a hat, all of which were keeping me warm. About 15 mins in I was finally warming up and had to take off my gloves.
And I got my personal best! I ran just under a 10 min/mile. Maybe because it was 20 degrees or that because I’ve been running everyday. Either way it doesn’t matter, I’m so stoked!
As for January, I’m thinking a new years day race, another cold one!

Awesome beyond awesome update!

I have good news related to running/weight loss as well as not.

First: I’m a music therapist!! I have been dreaming of this day since I was a sophomore in high school. I went to college to become a music therapist, I completed a 7 month music therapy internship and finally passed the board certification test! I’m so beyond thrilled!

Second: Since June I have lost 14 pounds!!! June is when I realized I really needed to start watching my weight but then I travelled to the UK and then moved back to Boston from Chicago, and it was just a stressful time. So since October I’ve been counting calories and working out almost every day. Thanksgiving was a bit of a stumble but I recovered! I need to lose 15 more pounds to be considered at a healthy weight according to BMI but I’d really like to lose 25 pounds (it’s still in the healthy range). I also just signed up for an unlimited month at a yoga place near me so that will start after the holidays to add some variety to my workouts. For now, I’m gonna keep counting calories and running!

In my 12 races in a year, I have 3 completed and the next one in about 2 weeks. It’s a 5k in Cambridge. Can’t wait!

Started the week off right. I gained some weight this weekend, which is understandable because of the amount of food (including sweets) I ate this weekend. Running my quickest mile (for 5 miles) makes up for it.
Did 45 mins on the treadmill (about 3.6 miles) and then 20 mins on the bike and then leg weights. Since starting this workout everyday regimen, I can really tell my legs are gaining muscle. It’s AWESOME!
