Awesome beyond awesome update!

I have good news related to running/weight loss as well as not.

First: I’m a music therapist!! I have been dreaming of this day since I was a sophomore in high school. I went to college to become a music therapist, I completed a 7 month music therapy internship and finally passed the board certification test! I’m so beyond thrilled!

Second: Since June I have lost 14 pounds!!! June is when I realized I really needed to start watching my weight but then I travelled to the UK and then moved back to Boston from Chicago, and it was just a stressful time. So since October I’ve been counting calories and working out almost every day. Thanksgiving was a bit of a stumble but I recovered! I need to lose 15 more pounds to be considered at a healthy weight according to BMI but I’d really like to lose 25 pounds (it’s still in the healthy range). I also just signed up for an unlimited month at a yoga place near me so that will start after the holidays to add some variety to my workouts. For now, I’m gonna keep counting calories and running!

In my 12 races in a year, I have 3 completed and the next one in about 2 weeks. It’s a 5k in Cambridge. Can’t wait!

Calories

Lately I’ve become one of those calorie counter people. I really see how counting calories and exercising are the keys to losing weight. It seems like a simple math problem that people don’t want to do so they go try everything else. Anyway…

I decided this morning I wasn’t going to the gym today. I deserved a break and have this horrible stuffy nose that just won’t go away and I had so much work to do. But, at our monthly work meeting they served dinner. I ate 3… count them 3 slices of pizza. I was SO hungry. So after calculating that I ate half of my daily supply of food when I only had 1/4 left, I decided that I had to go to the gym.

I ended up doing about 55 minutes of cardio to burn off the pizza and more. I then came home and wanted some cranberry juice, but it was also high in calories. So I literally got out the measuring cup and only had 1/2 of a cup (60 calories) of cranberry juice.

Who would of thought that I would do this? Not me…

So just recently I’ve jumped on the iPhone bandwagon. I’m loving it. But I recently discovered this neat-o app called myfitnesspal. It’s an easy way to track calories and exercise. In the past I’ve just always kept a running total in my head, but now I can track it all on my handy iPhone. But the COOLEST thing ever is that you can scan barcodes of food, and it will automatically import the nutrition facts.
I realize I’m probably way behind on discovering this, but this morning I went around scanning all of the food in my house. How cool. It even picked up my favorite English Tea PG Tips!
